Dear Delegates,
I am very pleased to welcome you to the fifty-sixth iteration of the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference! My name is Camila Castillo Paranhos and I will be your Chair for the Rebels side of The Satsuma Rebellion JCC. It has been such a pleasure preparing for this conference over these past several months and I cannot wait to share an incredible experience with you! I am so excited to tell you a little bit more about myself and this amazing conference.
I born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, I now find myself in the city of Philadelphia. Since coming to Penn, I have had the chance to take in all that Philadelphia’s vibrant art and food scene has to offer. I am studying in the College of Arts and Sciences, where I am majoring in Political Science and Economics. Joining the University of Pennsylvania’s International Affairs Association as an overwhelmed and confused freshman was one of the best decisions I have made since coming to Penn; I anticipate that UPMUNC 56 will be just as stimulating and enjoyable as the other Model United Nations conferences I have attended!
Your secretariat has spent countless hours working to make sure each of the committees is run by capable staffers and that each topic is dynamic and engaging for all of you. With a wide range of topics and committees, we hope that all delegates are able to partake in a lively debate about topics that excite them.
I have enjoyed pursuing my passion for Model UN on the collegiate level through INTERCOL, Penn’s competitive travel team, and volunteering for the Ivy League United Nations Conference, our high school MUN tournament, as well. I hope that we are able to foster an environment of learning and connection for all of you at UPMUNC this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any other members of the Secretariat with questions or concerns.
All my best,
Camila Castillo Paranhos
